Hollow Knight charms!

I thought I would not be uploading anything on my blog anymore but bigger projects like this one deserve a special post. I would post regular work in progress photos on my Instagram but it will be nice to have them all together right here.

This is a large relief carving done in butternut wood, the charms are finished with oil paints. It took me around 90 hours to finish. The carving board itself is 20x8 inches, the frame adds around 1 inch on each side. I was originally doing this for myself but somebody was seriously interested in the piece.

Have a look at the work in progress by reading more!

Hornet from Hollow Knight: Silksong

Hornet relief carving done in 11x9 inches piece of butternut wood, around one inch thick.
I am super excited about the upcoming game
The carving looks very simple but it was quite something to finish the last relief layer where the thread is, fortunately nothing broke and I can be happy with the result:

Hollow Knight relief carving

I am very excited about this Hollow Knight relief carving done in 11x8 inches piece of butternut wood. It is done out of two boards for an extra dimension. The Knight and stones are carved in one piece, then glued on the second piece where the Watcher Knight is. I have been doing it on and off for a while so it is hard to tell how long it took to finish. I would estimate it around 16 hours.

The original wallpaper artwork by Team Cherry and scroll saw pre-cut for the carving:

This is an absolute amazing game that I have played on both PC and Nintendo Switch. Right now I am in process of carving another character from Hollow Knight - Hornet. I am excited about the sequel of the game where she is going to be the main character. Here are some detailed photos of this current carving:

And just for those interested, here is the difference between the unfinished butternut wood and the wood once Danish oil as applied:

And for those interested, You can download this picture as a phone wallpaper:

Another game based relief carving - Samorost 3

The second relief carving done in butternut wood is the ''final battle scene'' from the game Samorost 3. It was done as a gift for my son's 3rd birthday, he really likes the ''robot fighting bubaba'' as he calls it. I decided not to paint this carving, it has some nice grain:

Relief carving - Darkest Dungeon scene

My first proper relief carving done as a celebration of me finishing the game Darkest Dungeon :)
It is a scene of my favourite party combination for regular run - Hellion, Highwayman, Houndmaster and Vestal. The piece is done in 15x8 inches butternut wood board and it is finished with Danish oil and oil paints, which is also something I have done the very first time.

The carving is not for sale, I am keeping this one! Here are some more photos of the relief:

And the last Magic the Gathering card boxes from last year...

Two small Commander deck boxes, both grabbed by custom requests before they were even fully carved. That is a repeated story of the Christmas time. I got once again so many requests before the holidays but it is always too late for me to make more of the boxes:

The last MTG boxes of this summer

Two small card boxes carved in August, both are already gone. The first is finished with light gel stain and for the second one I used dark mahogany after a really long time:

I am particularly fond of this design and carving:

Graveyard from Clash Royale, relief carving

A relief carving of ''Graveyard card'' from Clash Royale done on a cottonwood bark slab. It measures around 13 x 7 x 1.5 inches. It was a fairly quick work done on a spontaneous idea and it is probably my very first (completely) relief carving.

Catbus from My neighbor Totoro

Catbus from the movie My neighbor Totoro, hand carved in a piece of cottonwood bark.
My carving has only 8 legs instead of 10, the bark wasn't long enough to carve all the legs as seen in the original artwork. Also the ''mice lights'' are missing on the top of Catbus.

The carving is 11.5'' in length and 3.5'' in height.

Pink Floyd - The Wall - chip carving

Decorative chip carved plate inspired by The Wall by Pink Floyd.
It was a custom order where I needed to incorporate the famous screaming face and
a part of the song Comfortably Numb lyrics, I am quite happy with how it turned out:
